Day One...I join the ranks of the bloggers

Pear One, 0il, 4" x 5", Gesso board
Today, Monday...a good day of the week to start something new.

I wanted to start a journal about my experiences with getting into oil painting, drawing and really just being "creative" again. I am Beth, a freelance graphic designer, 51 years old, an empty nester, and now part time oil painting student. I took my first oil painting class "Drawing Into Painting" late summer 2010, yes just about six months ago.  I had never really picked up a paint brush before, well maybe in an intoduction to fine art class my freshman year of college or in a high school art class, but other than that and 30 years since college, I finally picked one up. Here is my first painting...yes a pear.

Vegetables One, Oil, 6" x 9", Gesso board

Currently I am taking Oil Painting at the Torpedo Factory, with instructor Edward "Ted" Reed. He is a great friend and mentor, and I am learning so much about myself as an artist, and about the art of painting, from the class.

I will post more paintings from my six month journey into painting to get myself and my viewers up to speed, then I will try to blog on a more regular basis about my current projects, successes, failures, frustrations. I hope that you will follow me on my journey.

  4. Beth, I enjoyed your blog all the way back to the beginning. You are such an accomplished painter even though you haven't been painting for long. I was especially impressed by your portraits and figures. My first painting was a pear too! I have been painting for 6 years and have yet to try the human form.
